The European School opened in September 2001, due to popular demand. Since then, thousands of students have passed through our doors. They have learnt English
French
Spanish
Italian
Russian
German and
Greek as a second language. Many of our students have made careers for themselves abroad and have been complimented on their knowledge of the language/s that they learnt with us.
Amanda Revell has a degree in French and Italian Language and Literature from the University of Hull, UK. She began her teaching career in Italy in the 1980s, where she taught English at two schools for ages ranging from nursery to adult. It was here that Amanda started her innovative language-learning programmes with young children. She discovered that the best way to teach a foreign language is by speaking it exclusively. The result was that many children in Pavia, Italy, grew up speaking English as a second native language. Amanda moved to Greece in the 1990s and has continued to do what she is passionate about: teach languages! Experience has proved how useful it is to know not one but multiple foreign languages! This is why our school offers so many courses both to the local community, as well as to the global market through online learning. Besides the contemporary methods of teaching that she has applied over the years, from the experience gained in Italy, Amanda currently teaches a class that started in Year 1 of primary school with the goal of making them native speakers of English. Mission almost accomplished – now they are in Year 6 and they are almost native speakers – with Amanda’s innovative teaching methodology.
We aim to provide language courses for every need, from nursery school up to and including adults. As each person learns their native language from the crib by listening, absorbing and finally producing spoken language, that is how we want to teach a second, third, fourth language. We put a lot of emphasis on speaking from Day 1: after all, did you learn to speak your mother tongue from a book? Books are obviously important, too, which is why we use only the best on the market. The results that we gain from formal exams every year are the proof that we are doing the right thing. We do not rest on our laurels, however, and are constantly trying to improve: we study innovative methodology, follow courses, go to conferences and exhibitions. The 21st century requires young people to have many skills in order to have a chance of getting a good job, and we believe we are part of that preparation.
